A desire to paint in France was simmering and a 1998 Calendar of 'The Most Beautiful Villages in Provence' was the catalyst that sent Barbara Rallo to those same villages to sketch and paint 'en plein air', something she has done annually for 25 years now.

Today her sketches and paintings are an intimate connection to the rich architecture of Europe, the beautiful colors and scents of Provence, and the incredible friends and other artists she met in those yearly sojourns to France.

Barbara was the founder and coordinator/co-chair of EnPleinAirTEXAS, one of the premier plein air competitions in the United States hosted by the San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts. This extraordinary international event continues to evolve and celebrate San Angelo's unique 100+ year plein air history.

An active participant in PASA (Plein Air San Angelo), an artist’s group she helped form 12 years ago. Barbara is constantly thinking up ways to energize the arts community by bringing artists to town for workshops or planning special arts events. She also reads weekly to three kindergarten classes at Goliad Elementary (always pointing the illustrations!).

An accomplished watercolorist; one of her French sketches won the 2016 June/July Sketchbook Award from the PleinAir Magazine Salon and she was the winner of the 2014 Plein Air Easton Quick Draw 'Best Non-Competition Artist' Award. Her work has been accepted into national shows in Texas and Louisiana. She served on the TTU System Public Art Committee and has been a judge for area painting competitions.

Barbara’s first gallery show at Art Gallery Prudencia in San Antonio in the summer of 2023 resulted in an invitation to stay as one of the artists in the gallery. The vivid pigments of pastel have always attracted her, and after a workshop in 2024, she is excited to now be adding pastel painting to her studio time.

As an arts entrepreneur, mentor, 'encourager/cheerleader', and teacher, Barbara's desire to help friends and strangers embrace their artistic passions keeps her busy in San Angelo and engaged with people across the world.
