James McKinnis
James A. McKinnis is a former civil servant who discovered a second career as an artist. He is a photographer and digital artist who lives in San Antonio.
The selection of works from McKinnis that are on display at Art Gallery Prudencia chronicle significant steps in his career, ranging back to when he still worked as a civil servant and a career as a photo artist was not even on his personal horizon.
The photographs that McKinnis takes are originally black and white. He then augments them with different styles of hand coloring. Some of these B/W photographs are colored by hand; others begin as B/W Giclee prints on fine art paper or stretched canvas and then tinted or photo painted in a manner to recreate the hand colored effect.
Jim is also the author of “The Texas Courthouse Renaissance- A Celebration of the Silver Anniversary of the Texas Historic Courthouse Preservation Program and Those Who Made It Happen”. The book is a collection of 127 hand-colored photographs, and is available at the Gallery.
